From Grief to Purpose: Kathleen’s Story of Strength, Loss, and New Beginnings.
Kathleen’s story doesn’t start with a photoshoot.
It starts with loss.
She was married to her husband, Matt, for 25 years—a really happy marriage. When he passed away in 2018, everything changed. She told me it was the worst thing she’s ever been through, and in those early days, she honestly wasn’t sure how she was going to make it.
Grief has a way of touching everything.
Her confidence was shaken. She couldn’t focus the way she used to. Even simple things—like getting in the car and driving—felt overwhelming for a while. The life she had built, including her work as a consultant, just didn’t feel possible anymore.
And yet… in the middle of all of that, something began to take shape.
She started writing to him.
Every day.
At first, it was just a way to stay connected. A way to keep talking to him. But over time, that writing became something more. It became a lifeline. Eventually, it turned into a book—Gentle Comforts for Women Grieving the Loss of a Beloved Life Companion.
Now, she shares that with other women who are walking through the same kind of loss.
She’s also become a certified grief support specialist and is helping lead support groups in her community.
Her life didn’t go back to what it was before.
But it moved forward into something new.
What struck me most talking to Kathleen is how she talks about this season of her life.
She called it a gift.
Not because of what happened—but because of what she’s discovered since. For the first time, she has space to explore what she really wants. To write. To connect. To try things she’s always been curious about.
She said she’s gone from feeling like her life was over… to actually feeling excited about what’s ahead.
That shift is everything.
When we talked about what “Her Life. Her Strength.” means to her, she said something that really stayed with me.
It’s not about moving on.
It’s about moving forward.
Carrying all of it with you—the love, the loss, the experiences, the strength it took to get through—and honoring that as part of who you are now.
Because the truth is, being a woman today asks a lot of us. And even with everything life hands us, we keep going. We keep growing.
When Kathleen came in for her session, it wasn’t about pretending to be someone she’s not.
It was about being seen as she is now.
A woman who is curious.
Grateful.
Full of life.
Still laughing.
A woman who has been through something deep—and is still open to what’s next.
And if you’re reading this and something in her story feels familiar…
If life has changed in ways you didn’t expect…
If you’ve ever wondered who you are now…
I hope this reminds you of something simple but important:
You’re still here.
There is still more ahead of you.
And you deserve to be seen in this part of your story too.
